TURN YOUR SWEATER INTO A FRIEND – a creative mending workshop with Ýrúrarí
Bring your old sweater - and leave with a reborn sweater. The exhibition actuelle textile designer and artist Ýrúrarí leds the repair workshop

In this workshop textile designer and artist Ýrúrarí gives insights into her work-processes and techniques which transforms abandoned clothes into new creations. Regardless if you are a beginner and never have held a needle in your hand you are very welcome to join. By the end of the workshop you might have brought your favorite sweater with a ketchup mark into a new life. To you with knitting experience, there will also be tools and material to learn a few new mending techniques, like turning a moth hole into a practical pocket or knitting a hand to cover mistakes from the past.
About the artist
Ýr Jóhannsdóttir has been working under the name Ýrúrarí since 2012, creating colorful textiles with a knitting focus. In her more recent work the focus has been on upcycling second hand sweaters by both mending the flaws in them and turning them into characters or art pieces to increase their value. By adding more personalized elements to a piece of clothing it might become more difficult to throw it away. Since 2020 Ýr has traveled with her creative mending workshop, sharing her approaches and techniques for people to try out themselves, to get an insight into the workshop by looking through Ýrúrarí’s Instagram (@yrurari).
Ýrúrarí will furthermore be exhibiting in the group exhibition Stof til Eftertanke running from the 23. September 2023 to the 28. January 2024 at Nordatlantens Brygge.
Event’s arrangement
Participants are encouraged to bring old knits in need of mending or a makeover to get the most out of the workshop.
Age limit: 12+
Price: 300 DKK. Tools and patching material are provided, and coffee and cookies will be served.
